The Decarbonization Imperative
Transforming the Global Economy by 2050

Based on their recently published book, The Decarbonization Imperative, and responding to the existential threat of climate change, Lenox and Duff propose a radical reconfiguration of the industries contributing the most to our planetary crisis. Disruptive innovation and obstacles to introducing a paradigm shift lead the authors to an analysis of policy interventions and strategies that could move us toward clean tech and decarbonization by 2050. They will talk about the transformations that need to take place in the next decade, which include 100% renewables for electricity, sustainable farming, and replacing carbon emitting energy sources. If we are going to avoid the worst effects of climate change, we need to decarbonize the global economy by 2050 or earlier!

MICHAEL LENOX, professor of Business Administration at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business and author. He received a Doctor of Philosophy in Technology Management and Policy from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1999. He has been a visiting professor at Stanford, Harvard, and Oxford.

REBECCA DUFF, Senior Research Associate at the Batten Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business. She also serves as the managing director for the institute’s Climate Change Initiative.
