Linocut is a type of relief printing method similar to woodblock. An image is carved into a linoleum block and what is left of the block is inked and printed by hand. In this basic introduction to linocut printing class, you will learn about carving. Learn how to take a pattern, a simple sketch or a photo and translate this image into a linoleum block using an easy transfer method and basic carving tools to create your first series of hand-pulled prints. We will create both one and two color multi-block prints through a total of four evening classes.

This is the perfect beginner’s workshop for artists who are curious about relief printmaking. We will focus on printing by hand as well as the results that can be achieved by using the various machine presses in the print studio. You will gain an understanding of this fun and creative medium and leave with a stack of your very own editioned linocut prints to share! All materials are provided through the class fee but if you have your own linocut tools feel free to bring them.

Note: Previously enrolled linocut students, or those with prior experience are welcome to join the class and pick up where they left off with their personal projects.
