Plein Air Tree Sketching in Multimedia
10:00 AM
Jack London State Historic ParkPark
Description:
Take in the natural beauty of Jack London State Historic Park where thousands of native trees flourish – Valley Oak, Coast Live Oak, Bay Laurel, Manzanita, Sequoia – and use them as inspiration for this three-hour workshop. Participants will join the instructor at the park, choose one tree to spend time with, drawing its detailed portrait while receiving instruction on proportion, placement, texture, line weight, and value. Once students have an established drawing, they will explore the values of their tree with inventive colors in watercolor or colored pencil. Practice and build your observational drawing skills, spend time in nature, and have fun with color! No prior drawing experience necessary; beginners welcome. All materials are provided but you’re welcome to bring a mixed media sketchbook if you already have one. You may also choose to bring a lightweight folding chair or easel if you’d like. Otherwise seating is at picnic tables, park benches, or the ground.

After the workshop you may choose to go hiking, tour the museum, or walk to the ruins of the Wolf House.

Important note: There is a Vehicle Entry Fee of $10. After the kiosk, veer to the right and proceed to the parking lot. All students will meet the instructor in the parking lot and walk together to the workshop area.

Please share any special considerations (medical, physical, learning) that will help your instructor make your class accessible and accommodating for you. You can share these considerations when register or by emailing Sean at sean@sonomacommunitycenter.org.
