Did you know that both California and Sonoma Valley are biodiversity hotspots? As many as a quarter of California’s species exist in this compact area, a place that comprises only a tenth of 1% of California’s entire land area!

Join Jack Hines (host of the Ear to the Wild podcast on KRCB/NPR) as he sets up his high-tech audio equipment enabling participants to listen in greater detail to the summer evening soundscape as part of of California Biodiversity Day. This will be a quiet, meditative hike, where we will spend most of our time listening. We will start with a short hike (1 mile) to a quieter location where we hope to hear owls and other summertime sounds such as the Common Poorwill. After setting up the audio equipment, we will listen quietly for 45 minutes. Feel free to bring a portable chair in a bag.
