Join painter and Disney Imagineer George Scribner as he guides you through this simple step-by-step approach to painting using three colors (red, yellow, blue) and white. Learn the advantages of a limited palette, how to choose a center of interest, and the power of values (lights and darks). The painting process will be divided into three steps: Drawing, Value, Color, in that order of importance. If you ever have troubles in color, it’s usually a value problem and the easiest to fix. By using a limited palette of three colors, you’ll learn more about color from mixing them and your painting will harmonize since all the colors are being mixed from just the three primaries. There’s a great expression that “value does the work and color gets the credit” and it’s true! The goal of the class is not to do a finished painting, but a series of small exercises, and once we’re done, scrape and reuse the canvas.

Please view the Supply List to learn what to bring to class.

Note: There will be a one-hour lunch break. Bring a bag lunch or plan to grab a bite at a nearby location.

Please share any special considerations (medical, physical, learning) that will help your instructor make your class accessible and accommodating for you. You can share these considerations when registering or by emailing Sean at sean@sonomacommunitycenter.org.
