A Mindful Walk in the Park
9:30 AM
Jack London State Historic Park
Description:
The magic of nature can boost people’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being. A guided Mindful walk can easily refresh your mind and body in the beautiful setting of Jack London Park. As part of California State Parks Week join us on Thursday, June 13th for a refreshing walk with guide Jeff Falconer.
Walking Meditation has been practiced for centuries in many parts of the world. It has been used as a healing tool by people from many spiritual and religious traditions, as well as folks who just want to “feel good”.
The everyday activity of walking, combined with an awareness of one’s breath, one’s own body in motion, and one’s surroundings, can quickly reward the mindful walker with a deep calm and increased sense of belonging in the natural world. This easy discipline offers a valuable enhancement to the long-established benefits of walking as exercise.
First, explore this lovely activity on a relaxed loop around Jack’s Beauty Ranch. Then, if you desire, take the practice deeper with a moderate 4 mile hike on the trails of Jack London Park. Your guide, Jeff Falconer will begin the journey with a brief overview of Walking Meditation, followed by a short standing meditation to ground and center us before embarking.
Sonoma native Jeff Falconer has been practicing meditation for over half a century and has distilled his practice down to the essentials. Although his process is still ongoing, he has shared his style of meditation with two new books, “This Timeless Breath: Simple Guide to Sitting Meditation” and “This Step Home: Simple Guide to Walking Meditation.” Learn more about his books (available at this event.)
