Description:
Join Sugarloaf Volunteer and former Professor of Botany Steve Hackett for a fun wildflower and nature hike on the breathtaking Goodspeed Trail. We will be looking for late spring and early summer blooms, contrasting plant communities associated with lush canyon riparian areas and dry serpentine chaparral hillsides, and seeing examples of how some flowering plants communicate with pollinators.
This is a 3-3.5 mile out-and-back hike. There will be a low level stream crossing and some moderate hillside climbing, though we will turn around well before the Nattkemper bench.
Meet at the Goodspeed parking lot. Tickets are $10 for general audiences, $5 for students, youth (12-17 year olds; must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian), Sugarloaf members, Sugarloaf or RFO volunteers, and free for children 7-11. Not recommended for children younger than 7. Tickets day-of on site are $15 and might not be available. Wear comfortable clothing, appropriate footwear for rocky/slippery trails, and sun protection. Bring at least a quart of water, hiking poles, and if you desire, a snack. Parking fees apply.
