This popular workshop is designed for beginners in printmaking or anyone who is interested in learning and exploring a creative new approach to intaglio printmaking!

Learn to use recycled packaging containers such as Tetra Pak® boxes, and discarded plastic trays, lids and clamshells to create quality intaglio prints. Drypoint is a nontoxic intaglio printmaking method that involves scratching an image into the surface of a plate or matrix with a pointed tool. The scratched lines, being lower than the original surface, can receive ink and print. It is the most user-friendly intaglio process because it does not involve the use of grounds(wax) or mordants(acid). This workshop will show you how to create original prints from start to finish by using easily accessible and recycled materials you can find in your home pantry or refrigerator! Students will learn to engrave, incise, and texturize plates, and then ink and print with them. This will be a fun, experimental workshop that will give you a small look into the joy and process of a unique form of printmaking. You will have hands-on experience in our studio to design and engrave your plates using an etching press, and creating hand-pulled editioned prints. Recycle, repurpose and recreate! No prior printmaking experience is necessary! All supplies are provided through the material fee. A one-hour lunch break will be provided.
