Campers will be inspired by SCC’s elephants from The Real Elephant Collective and will create ceramic and felt 3D elephants.
What you’ll do
At this unforgettable art adventure, children will step into the wild and wonderful world of elephants-where creativity, conservation, and imagination come together.
Inspiration begins with the magnificent life-sized elephants, Moringa and Marigold, created by The Real Elephant Collective and displayed in the front garden of the Sonoma Community Center. Originally crafted in India as part of a global art exhibition, these gentle giants tell a powerful story about protecting elephants and living in harmony with the natural world. Throughout the week, children will blend art, storytelling, and environmental discovery-imagining migration paths, designing habitats, and reflecting on what it means to coexist with animals thoughtfully and responsibly.
In the studio, young artists will:
Sculpt their own clay elephant, learning hand-building techniques and adding unique personality and detail. Each ceramic piece will be professionally glazed and kiln-fired, creating a lasting keepsake.
Create a soft, three-dimensional felt elephant using hand sewing and embroidery techniques, practicing patience, fine motor skills, and creative expression.
Children will need to bring their lunch every day as well as a water bottle or drink for each day.
The Sonoma Community Center will provide snacks each day.
