This is a practical course for artists who want to learn a method that answers the question, “What is that color?” and “How can I make it?” In this course you will learn, using oil paints, how to identify and mix colors with a practical method that is easy and reliable. Through a progression of 8 lessons that include demonstrations and exercises, the student will build a color journal and a foundation of practical experience for confidently mixing color. Topics this color course will include are: opaque vs transparent pigments, native color value, color mixing, the interaction of colors, complementary color pairing, hue naming, and a color notation shorthand for describing colors.

The required materials for this course are designed for the student to produce a permanent color journal of the exercises and records of color mixing experimentation.
