Explore body, mind, and imagination through movement, art, and writing in this beginner-friendly, four-week class. No experience needed-just curiosity!
What you’ll do
Based on the Tamalpa Life/Art Process, founded by Anna Halprin, this four-week class invites participants to explore the connection between body, mind, and imagination through gentle movement, art-making, and writing. Each session blends simple, creative activities designed to transform life experiences into art and open new possibilities for personal renewal. In a supportive and beginner-friendly environment, students will deepen self-awareness, express emotions, and discover fresh perspectives. No prior dance or art experience is required—just curiosity and an open heart.
Course Format and Weekly Outline:
Session 1 – The Call & Crossing the Threshold: Mapping the Self
Theme: Where am I now?
Practices: Guided movement warm-up; sensory awareness; movement exploration of stepping
toward/away from a “threshold”; body mapping with paint/collage; reflective writing.
Outcome: Participants identify their current state and set creative intentions for the series.
Session 2 – Trials & Allies: Shadows and Strengths
Theme: Meeting obstacles and discovering resources.
Practices: Movement exploration of “allies and shadows”; expressive drawing/painting; optional mask or small clay object; reflective writing; small-group witnessing.
Outcome: Students recognize inner strengths and gain flexible tools for navigating emotions and challenges.
Session 3 – Ordeal & Transformation: Release and the Boon
Theme: Releasing old patterns and discovering new insights.
Practices: Grounding movement; movement ritual exploring “what I am ready to release”; creation of
the “Boon” object or image; reflective writing.
Outcome: Participants experience personal renewal and create a symbolic object representing newly
gained insight.
Session 4 – Return with the Elixir: Integration & Wholeness
Theme: Carrying creative insight back into everyday life.
Practices: Movement exploration of “pathways of return”; creation of a triptych (Before / Crossing /
Return); gallery walk and group witnessing; closing ritual with shared intentions.
Outcome: Students integrate learning and leave with practical creative practices for ongoing self-
discovery and stress relief.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Develop greater self-awareness by exploring personal experiences through movement, art-making, and reflective writing.
2. Use creative tools for well-being, including techniques for emotional expression, personal renewal, and stress reduction.
3. Strengthen confidence and connection through supportive group activities and experiments with
expressive movement and visual art.
