What you’ll Create
This four-week Raku Class will delve into the fundamental aspects of Raku firing. This course will include discussions on preparation, covering clay selection, appropriate hand-building techniques, and glaze application. We will explore the Raku kiln firing process, essential safety principles, and proper handling of ceramic pieces. Furthermore, the class will examine the distinctive aesthetic qualities of raku, the cleaning of finished pieces, and an introduction to Raku history.The initial three weeks of the class will be dedicated to constructing pieces suitable for Raku firing, emphasizing key guidelines and best practices. Instructor Azelia will provide a demonstration on mask-making and guide students through self-driven hand-building projects. In the final class, we will fire up the Raku kiln and put our work to the test.
Supply List
Closed toed shoes, natural fiber clothes, pants, N95 mask.
